Lets make a movie.

For a few months I have been toying with the idea of making a little video about my 2012 carnival experience.  For lack of a better term, a “music video” summarizing my trip. I saw a couple of really nice videos on TCD today that kinda helped me make up my mind.

It will take a bit of practice, some effort and may actually require me to party marginally less while shooting, but I’m committed to this project now.

I have fully researched my options in term of recording equipment and have actually googled how to do it.

That being said I have a challenge for all of you my many, many, many readers;)

I want all of you to also try what I’m trying.  Whether it be your phone, camera or a DSLR, I want you to take a series of clips that summarizes or epitomizes your carnival experience then edit it to make your own “Music video”.  We can all compare and vote on the best one.  I will organize a prize of some kind (TCC and ICS I hope you are listening!).

On a technical note I will be using iMovie and a Kodak Zx5 to do what I’m doing.

I have gotten a few pointers from here.

Oversaturation, slow motion and close ups are our friends 🙂

Here is what others have done with this simple kodak camera.

Let’s do it Tiffany!  Research a good pocket camcorder or use your camera and a big memory card. The link in the post will give good tips on style and editing techniques. Sent from my iPad

It sounds like I should be keenly awaiting YOUR videos Maria! I am finding that the really key factor in making a good video is the editing. Look at how beach house made a video with some slow motion. It makes everything look better..just check Dave chapelles laundry skit:)When the time comes show me what you can do. 720p/60 please:)

I love this idea ManLi! I’ve been seriously capturing videos of my crew since 2009. I recently invested in the Kodak Zx3 HD Waterproof Pocket Video camera which is the older version of your Zx5. The videos are surprisingly good for a pocket video camera. 1080p baby! Also since it is waterproof it’ll be good for J’ouvert (if u get a good light source) and those beach trips for C2K12! Just remember to put it in waterproof mode.I also use the Canon powershot SD1400IS for fetes and events where I do not feel like taking my mini lights to as this camera has built in flash and the videos in poor light are not so bad. 720 baby. I have some crazy videos from Beachhouse just as the sun was setting…For my POV (point of view) videos, I use the contour HD 1080p hands free camera. Its also waterproof and can take quite a beating lol. Also, it is so small that people often forget that you are taping and you can get some really candid videos. And finally, I use my trusty JVC Everio 1080p video camera for those home videos. My best videos have come from sticking it on the tripod and placing it in the living room to capture all the action as the crew gets hyped and ready to hit the street on Carnival Tuesday.Looking forward to seeing your videos and those of your readers 🙂
