Post Jamaica Carnival analysis of a Carnival Virgin

“Most days I sit at my desk with a big ol’ grin on my face…Soca blaring through my

headphones…pretending to be doing the government’s work…when in actuality I’m thinking about

when I’m going to get my next Soca fix. Carnival is maybe 10 months away and I’m already thinking

about how I can make my next experience even better than this one. I’m not even sure if that’s possible,

but there are a few things that I would have done differently…

First thing’s first…Fitness. I thought I was in pretty good shape. While I don’t have a formal exercise

routine, I figured I’d be OK since don’t have a sedentary job and I do quite a bit of walking at work. After

all, its just 6miles and I’m young and fit right?! Wrong!!! While I’m proud to say I walked the entire

route (no I did not go on the truck) I was kind of a mess when I got home. I threw out my knee. Like

seriously f&@%ed it up. I had to ice several times that night and I wore flats to work that entire week.

The strain was due in part to the fact that I went to Bazodee the night before and wore heels(maybe

that wasn’t such a good idea but the outfit would’ve looked weird with flats…lol). I think too that I

should’ve gotten some gel insoles for my boots as that may have provided some extra support. Also, I’m

going to pace myself better. I was chippin down the road non-stop. Well, I’m not gonna take the blame

for that though…It’s not my fault that Soca music is so infectious that I couldn’t stop moving. It’s not my

fault that there were so many hot guys on the road to wine with. It’s not my fault that they kept playing

“Bend Over” and ‘Go Dung”. Sigh…

Anyway…Next year I’m sooo gonna be ready! I’m going start some serious exercise this summer. I can’t

afford to waste a single second on the road thinking about pain or fatigue. There is simply way to much

fun to be had…”

Just noticed the article was about Jamaica carnival. Anyway, hope all your preparation for carnival 2012 work out wonderfully.

  • Don’t know if you can get into better shape than you were for carnival 2011? You look smoking hot in that blue and green outfit! Are you doing Yuma mas in 2012? My first trip to T&T will be for carnival 2012. It looks like a lot of fun. I’m trying decide between Tribe, Island People, and Yuma. Right now, I’m liking Island People the most. What are your suggestions about selecting a mas band. Thanks!
