Bacchanal launches!
I reached REAAAALLY late so I could only get a few blurry photos. For what its worth here they are.
The costumes look reasonably detailed and glittery. I still think that there is NO good reason to not offer frontline options (hence the reason for the existence of Lehwegofrontline).
On that same note, a representative of Bacchanal Jamaica pulled me aside and let me know that wire bras couldn’t fly in their road march as it would bring the church and other conservative elements down on their heads.
It’s their road march and I will comply. In the land of “dutty fridays” conservative elements still have a lot of influence when it comes to carnival. I also have to agree that nudity by itself does nothing positive for carnival so you will hear no arguments from me really, but in the same breath it’s time for carnival in Jamaica to make a push for the better.
Stagnation equals death in the business world and carnival to some extent IS a business. We need a better experience, from the build-up, to the launch and finally to the costumes. I can’t complain about the road experience though (thank heaven).
My crystal ball tells me next year there may just be some competition to snap bacchanal back to reality and to provide better experiences to revellers. I hope that prophecy is right as competition WILL improve carnival in Jamaica!

Another thing…all the curvy women in Jamaica and aside form the white costume none of the models are filling out the brassiere part of the costumes? Le sigh.Matter of fact this just giving me ideas…
I agree with your crystal ball…sometimes I wonder how I could help it along…I can’t design a thing but I see All-Island Carnival trying a ting…and I am hoping someone comes with a different band..only thing is, is the demand really THERE…cause what Jamaicans don’t like to do is waste time on something people not going to spend money on…And yes our hyperreligious yet hypersexual ways def leave people confused, disgusted, or tantalized depending on what going on…i think the thinking is that dutty fridays etc are “in private” behind closed doors, away from the eye of folks who didn’t go on purpose to see it…whereas carnival is in the streets, streets that everybody pass at that, man woman boy girl…and whether you intend to see it or not if your business take you that way you have no choice…lol at the wire bra warning though. No body painted (only) upper bodies either i take it. But monokinis, backpacks, wings, corsets, bustiers, etc…no reason for them not to exist you right!
